The role

A unique opportunity has arisen for a Project Accountant to assist on a prestigious case within our Business Crime department. This is a full-time role and will be offered on an initial six-month contract, with every possibility that it will be extended for a further period.

The successful individual will report to the Finance Director and the Partners on the case and will act as the liaison between the external client and the internal legal project team. They will be responsible for all financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and the production of internal and client-facing financial data. Specific tasks will include:

  • Attending internal legal project meetings and ensuring they and the internal legal team are updated on cost and case related matters.
  • Creation of KPI dashboards (Excel / PowerPoint) – maintaining data and reporting on variances. 
  • Responsibility for running weekly calls with the external client to discuss legal costs incurred, variances against approved client budgets on the project and any arising issues such as cost overruns and scope of work creep against the achievement of key milestones.
  • Tracking external client work approvals against work done (with live data) and fees billed.
  • Producing scheduled reports and analysing live financial data on all aspects of the case such as cost estimates, WIP, variance and month end WIP accruals.
  • Producing long-term financial projections.
  • Providing ad hoc support to the project team as required to ensure the smooth running of the project.

The person

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and competencies:

  • A legal accounting / costs budgeting / project management background is desirable to ensure the individual understands the context and is comfortable discussing relevant accounts procedures such as Purchase Order systems, cost estimates, budgeting, WIP, disbursements etc.
  • Either ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualifications or Project Management qualifications with costs budgeting experience.
  • Advanced IT skills especially advanced Microsoft Excel data analysis skills. This is a hands-on data-heavy role requiring manipulation of Excel data to produce budgets, forecasts and variance analysis across multiple workstreams.
  • Highly organised and conscientious.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive and positive approach to work.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • A self-starter, able to work under their own initiative and cope with challenging deadlines.
